I’ve never really understood people’s desires to look ,or to be,like a carbon copy of someone else. Individuality is most uncommon today. This is in reference , of course,to the world of fashion or interior design. And as superficial as this may sound to some ,this is where I feel that we can most express our personality and creativity. We should want to make personal choices out of what we wear and where and how we live. And this is how we can create our very own “thumbprint” of our life style of living and of dressing. And ,as you know, there are no two thumbprints that are alike. This is your identity and distinction from all others. In simple terms, this is what makes you – You.

Most well known and established designers have a very particular sense of style; so very much of their own making that it clearly sets them apart from one another. Their work’s appeal and uniqueness are their trade mark . And we can identify them by name just by glancing ,or even better, by observing every detail of their work. This is most evident , and very much their desired effect , even when working with a client as they guide them through a project ;and at the same time try to interpret their requests and desires for their homes and work spaces.

A small Library corner where there is a beautiful marriage of Majolica ceramics displayed on the book shelves, a French Period stool covered in a green and blue contemporary fabric which sits in front of the book shelves and on top of a lattice rug ; and finally a lacquer brief case with a very informal basket holding papers and fabrics. When you dissect the items in this photo you might not have thought to have put this together as such. But it creates a comfortable space with an elegant feel that invites you to sit a pick out a book.
This delicate fine bone blue and white china alone is enough as a table top setting. But when you add all of the little precious porcelain boxes, silver apples , silver cabbage tureens , and the unusual collection of salt and pepper shakers; and skillfully set your the table with crisp white pressed linen place mats and napkins – it all becomes an enchanting floral garden with an exquisite fair . I believe that even the food served on these dishes will be more delectable than it probably is. Alex Papachristidis , a New York based designer, is truly a master of details. I highly recommend his book , “The Age of Elegance: Interiors by Alex Papachristidis”

And the most important thing to remember while you’re decorating your own home is to feel comfortable with the things you choose to display or set out simply for your own delight. The treasures , family and friend photos, and travel purchases that bring you joy when you see them are the ones that you might want to find a little space for in your home. And it can be just anywhere; not just the living area. And let’s face it, most of our lives are very routine and mundane on a regular basis. Anything that I can do to put a smile on my face and make me feel a little more special I will definitely do. And it is my belief that living your life surrounded by beauty and happy memories is the perfect recipe to encourage and promote a positive outlook to your life. Also, let us remember that a good bottle of wine is quite the motivator for joy as you are indulging in your lovely surroundings.
