The minute I walk in through my front door at the end of a long day ,or even a short one, I know that I have arrived at my desired and safe destination . I then place my house and car keys in the exact same console table next to the front door along with my sunglasses ,which I will need again tomorrow when I head out to my shop. We open at 10:30 AM ;and anyone who knows me also knows that I am so not a morning person. Never have been and I suppose I never will be. My alarm goes off at 7:00 AM and ,yes I sometimes hit the snooze button like most people do. But it takes me a very long time to get ready to leave the house; but that is a topic for another day.

The drive to the shop is 7 – 10 minutes depending on traffic . And if you live in Miami, or have ever visited our lovely, but very congested city, then you are acquainted with our over crowded situation as far as traffic is concerned. I complain about it every day but I am also sadly aware of the fact that Miami is not a walking city. Cars are a necessity; and public transportation truly leaves a lot to be desired. Therefore, I do my very best so that I don’t have to go to the super market for last minute groceries, or to dry cleaners to pick up something I want to wear that day. No thank you. I’ll eat what ever is in my kitchen; and I’ll wear something else that is hanging in my closet.

Which brings me to my favorite room in the house – my bedroom. I read somewhere years ago, that master bedrooms belong to the lady of the house and so they should be decorated in her own style and fashion. She is the person who invites her husband, or special guest, into “her” very own room. It is a place of privacy and repose and dreams that you share with others or keep all to yourself . My bedroom is my haven ; it’s my safe place . This is where my days are begun and where they end. I lay my head on our monogrammed pillows cases and can read a book or do my crossword puzzles . I can relax and watch my preferred TV programs in solitude, or with my husband , Angel. After 44 years of marriage this wonderful man still surprises me with fresh flowers on my dressing table – just because. He’s definitely a keeper. On occasion my granddaughter is my TV partner as well, bless her heart. And this, more importantly, is where I pray before I close my eyes at night giving thanks always for my family, friends, and my blessed life.

It’s amazing how much pleasure a little sitting area will bring just so that you can read a book quietly or converse privately . It can make all of the difference for you at the end of a long day.
For me ,an abundance of pillows on a bed , especially mine, is a must.
Reading in bed requires the comfort of many pillows and good lighting; especially at the end of the day when you’re tired and would rather not fall asleep while you are enjoying a good book. Table lamps on your night stands can can be complimented by beautiful overhead lighting.
The use of fabric on the walls dates as far back as Marie Antoinette and then some. Draping the walls with bed curtains on the back of headboards is not exclusive to only to large rooms or to double, queen, or king beds. It’s all a matter of making your guest want to sleep and dream in the bedroom of your making.
White is my favorite color for beds. Then you can splurge on any wallpaper design and color that you desire.
Day beds are perfect for guest bedrooms and small sitting rooms. I will always love toile patterns . Very romantic and very French.
The world of softness and comfort is easily ,and often, translated through the use of rich fabrics . The bedroom is such an important room in which to use everything that conveys beauty and romance.

Little must have Bedroom luxuries:

Linen Sprays , room mists, and candles . I recommend Hillhouse Naturals or Thymes Collection. Fresh flowers , preferably with a fragrance , like roses, lavender, or star gazer lilies. Table lamps for your night stands with 3 way adjusting light bulb so that you can decide how much lighting you actually need. An excess in comfortable and beautiful pillows for reading, watching TV ,and for sleeping. A water decanter with a glass on your night stand in case you feel thirsty : this way you don’t have to unnecessarily walk all the way to the kitchen. Luscious linens, pillow cases and bed coverlets that invite you right into bed. Family photos and treasures that only you can appreciate because of their very personal value. And , of course, buy the best mattress you can afford because , although I’m all about aesthetics, getting a good nights rest means that you will wake up very rested and refreshed. And ready to face another beautiful day.
